Shitpie

“Shit Pie” is a short experimental video produced in 2020. It came about spontaneously when, due to COVID, the Serbian government declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew after 5 PM. This resulted in empty streets—every skater’s dream—and numerous untouched spots that seemed to be waiting to be “abused” by skateboard rides. Because of the curfew, we couldn’t venture too far from home, and the entire film was shot within the limits of our neighbourhood, which, during that period, represented an entirely unexplored world.

Through skateboarding, we aimed to convey the essential connection between skate culture and the streets, an indispensable terrain for skateboarding. The skateboard, as a mobile pedestal, exudes the freedom of movement. Through careful selection of the environment for each trick, we explore the dynamics of the accessibility of the surfaces we move on. Each trick becomes a sort of performance, and the choice of the trick itself, in correlation with the location and the execution style, becomes a crucial element of are artistic expression. By placing “Shit Pie” in the context of quarantine, where movement restrictions were imposed, are exploration deepened. The deprived possibility of moving away from home encouraged us to discover the beauty and potential in locations that had previously eluded us, ones we perceived as ordinary, boring, or accessible. Hence the project’s name, “Shit Pie,” declaring that a pie can always be made, regardless of the ingredients.
